Contemporary designs for mythological characters

Students of the Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) were inspired by mythological gods and designed outfits. The designs were presented to a jury consisting of Ahmet Korkmaz, one of the designers of BR Retailing, famous fashion designer Hatice Gökçe, and Nuray Atalayman from Roteks Textile Company. Selected designs will be displayed in the debut of Beymen Business’ new brand’s collection in May.
Prof. Dr. Ender Yazgan Bulgun, Dean, IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, stated that third-year students designed men’s wear under the coordination of Faculty Member Şölen Kipöz. Bulgun said, “Our students designed men’s wear collections for Beymen Business’ newest brand in their Design Studio course under the supervision of faculty member Şölen Kipöz. Designer Ahmet Korkmaz, who is in charge of product development and logistics of the brand, delivered a presentation to 12 of our students. As a result, students conducted a preliminary study for the first collection of the new brand targeting males aged 25 – 55. Students designed the spring-summer 2020 collection. The theme was based on the 8 Greek gods and students sought an answer to the question of what kind of a consumer would the gods they choose be if they were alive today”.
Prof. Dr. Bulgun reported that a jury including Korkmaz and famous fashion designer Hatice Gökçe evaluated students’ designs, and said that students gained an in-depth experience about the logic of men’s wear, design process, and materials. Prof. Dr. Bulgun stated that the brand would undertake the manufacturing of the selected designs of students and promote students’ collections.
